I lived in Japan for several years working as a lawyer. Never thinking I would one day change direction and become a ceramicist. Maybe it was those impressions of meticulously raked Zen gardens that informed my work. Or while travelling the coloured rock striations in the Utah desert. I know I respond to the process of throwing. Its spontaneity and energy, pushing the porcelain to its limits. In throwing I am responding to something that is alive. Porcelain has its own intentions.
